YCS - Diocese of Mangaluru had organized Village Exposure Camp from 19 to 23 April 2015 at Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar. The inauguration started by seeking God’s blessings through a prayer song at 5.30 pm. Chief guest for the programme was Rev. Fr. Lawrence Mascarenhas, parish priest of Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar. He addressed the youth and welcomed all the delegates. The president of the programme was Mr. Roshan Lobo, NEXCO. In his presidential address he said that we should make use of all the opportunities we have got and inculcate in us a sense of responsibility.
The other guests were Ms Frivita D’Souza, Regional president of YCS; Ms Cynthia Dias Regional treasurer of YCS; Ms Joyline D’Souza, YCS President Mangaluru Diocese; Mr Glavin Lobo President, Belthangady Deanery; Mr Claven Rodrigues, President of Madanthyar YCS unit; Fr Edwin Correa, YCS/YSM director of Mangaluru diocese; Fr. Ronald Veigas YCS/YSM director of Shimoga diocese; Fr. Cliford Pinto, Assistant parish priest of Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar; Mr Norbert Misqiuth, Resource person of YCS; Mr. Gregory Serrao, Vice president of Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar. Fr. Edwin Correa welcomed all the guest and delegates with a shawl.
There were value based and interactive sessions by various resource persons. Mr. Norbert Misquith took a session on knowing each other on the first day. Fr. Ronald Veigas explained about the responsibilities one should have by the methodology of YCS\YSM – “See Judge Act”. Mr. Vivek Pais gave a session on youth problems and he briefed us about drugs abuse and alcohol. Fr. Charles Menezes gave a session on importance of work and he said that the success of work depends on dedication. Fr. Sunil Kumar D’Souza gave a session on love and friendship and he also said the difference between love, infatuation and friendship. Mr. Kiran gave us the talk on awareness of nature and environment and also showed the different species of snakes. These were the different sessions taken during the camp.
The importance was given on work like cutting grass, cleaning local channels, and we also had the day’s work like cleaning cow shed, picking cow dung , washing cows, carrying logs of wood, cleaning the surroundings, shifting the coconut leaves from the church to the hostel. ICYM team of Madanthyar had organized a program called “Swach Madanthyar” in which our delegates were also the part of this programme and cleaned Madanthyar city. At the end of the day we had evaluations in which the students came to know what they have learnt and how it has to be implemented in their life.
Concluding programme was held on 22 April 2015. The chief guest of the programme was Fr. Lawrence Mascarenes Parish Priest, Madanthyar Church and he was accompanied by Mr. Roshan Lobo, Mrs. Cynthia Dias, Mr. Floid Noronha, Mrs. Joyline D’Souza, Mr. Glavin Lobo, Mr. Claven Rodrigues, Fr. Ronald Veigas, Fr. Edwin Correa, Fr. Cliford Menezes and Fr. Sunil Kumar D’Souza.
Fr. Lawrence Mascarenhas gave a message for all participants saying we should change ourselves and then change others and he also said that it may be a last day of your camp but it is not an end. Fr. Edwin Correa felicitated the people who had helped in making this camp a successful one. 5 Students shared their experiences. After the formal programme cultural programme was given by the students and the parishioners.
Later supper was served and we had camp fire which was started by seeking God’s blessings. Camp fire was led by Fr Edwin and by everyone exchanging of the candles with the words Peace be with You was done and concluded by a baila dance.
On the final day, the program begun with the prayer followed by self-appreciation session in which all the delegates had to write good values of the co-delegates. And we had the photo session with all the participants, DEXCO and the priests. At 10.30 am the village exposure camp winded up with YCS/YSM anthem.
