Chennai, July 17: The Inauguration of YCS/YSM- Chennai diocese for the academic year of 2011- 2012 held on 16th July 2011, Saturday at St. Thomas Tomb Chapel Hall, National Shrine of St. Thomas Basilica, Santhome from 10 am to 4 pm. There were around 200 students with 35 animators. The Inaugural Program was presided by Mr. Paul Das, a former animator of our diocese. Through his speech, he was able to prove the students that YCS holds the key in moulding the students to become better citizens of tomorrow. The lighting of the lamp which marks the tradition was lit up. R. Allif Nisha, the Joint-Secretary of the diocese thanked the Chief Guest.
A small orientation on YCS/ YSM was given by Mr. Leo Joseph, from the National YCS/ YSM office. He made the students to understand the joy one cherishes being a part of an international movement and what our movement does and expects from each and every student leaders. He said “Whether you do something or not, the movement will always do for you”. The students were very keen to know more and they slowly realized the values they gain in being in the family of YCS/YSM. This made the students to come up and shared what they have become being in YCS/YSM and how their life became meaningful.
The 1st session was headed by Mr. Devaneyan Director-Solidarity NGO. The letters of introduction was given by Mr. Deepak Raj, an Ex-Ycs’er. Mr. Devaneyan made the students understand the importance of preserving the environment for the present and the future world. He raised many questions for students to reflect on environmental hazards which were very helpful for the students. Awareness songs and Action Songs were used to keep the session interesting. The students realized the importance of avoiding plastics which is very much dangerous to their health and also for the world at large. The students took a promise to “Avoid Plastics & Save Mother Earth”.
The students gathered back after lunch and few action songs. The 2nd session was taken by Mr. Deepak Raj, who gave a brief Introduction about Ycs/Ysm to students. He made the students understand the value which Ysm tells to the world and what you gain as an Ysm’er today. He made the students understand through many visual presentations, which made the students to realize and thus this session brought a complete change within the students to be better citizens for tomorrow.
Thus by 3.30 the concluding ceremony took place. The elections for the new REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES took place. Fr. Clement Bala, the diocesan Chaplain, proposed the vote of thanks, thanking everyone who made the event a grand success.
Special thanks to the LOC team whose efforts deserve a special praise! Thus the curtains were brought down by singing the YSM Theme song & YCS/ YSM clap, which marks a conclusion of a great beginning….
